Off on vacation

After a grueling week at work, I'm off to Cape Cod for a vacation. We've rented a small house on a lake with a dock and I'm so ready to swim, relax, eat clams, go boating, walk on the beach, read novels....

This will be my first sober vacation. I was feeling very ambivalent about this but this morning I know that I am going to do it. A sober friend noted that you don't get many family vacations in life and it's important to be present for them. So I will be. See you next week, everyone.

P.S. Grace, the ginger beer is an awesome substitute for wine. I only allow myself to drink it when I would otherwise have been having a glass of wine. Yummy stuff!

My drink of choice has become Dr. Pepper. Needless to say, I drink it obsessively and compulsively.

I like what you said about having a ginger beer only when you would have a glass of wine. I guess I drink Dr. Pepper only when I would previously have a beer. I drink a LOT of Dr. Pepper, and I always seem to be running out! LOL

Have a great vacation!

Ginger beer is good stuff; I really like the bite. I suspect that is because I loved the burn of alcohol; it meant everything was going to be alright for so many years.

Have a great holiday!

i came across your blog accidentally, my friend has a similar blog name, and was pleased to read about your drive to abstain from alcohol. personally, my husband and i are triathletes and find that with all of our really fun sports commitments, you simply can't drink! who can go for a 10 miler with a hangover?! also, doing sport has brought attention to how dehydrated people let themselves become, be it due to alcohol, coffee or carbonated drinks.
i recomend drinking cool, clear water. our bodies are composed mostly of water, keep it moist!
and congratulations on your accomplishments. it's hard to stop drinking when so much of our culture revolves around it.
(PS if you ever have an important event you would like to toast, think about how you would like to toast it. would you like to imbibe in unhealthy alcohol or really enjoy the tastes of life with fresh mango juice? or papaya? whatever suits your fancy)
